Upgrade Drupal 5.5 to Drupal 5.6

  1. Ensure that the latest site backup is intact on the local pc. We will need this backup in case of the need to restore.
  2. Download and extract a fresh copy of of drupal 5.6 into c:\work\smv\download\drupal5\. This will create a drupal-5.5 directory with the core drupal files extracted.
  3. Disable (offline) the bluehost original / production site using the Site Maintenance module.
  4. Upload via ftp the drupal-5.6 directories (all except sites, files) to bluehost /smv/prod/smv. This will overlay the core drupal code with the upgraded version on bluehost.
  5. Upload via ftp any updated modules/themes under from (C:\work\smv\download\drupal5\modules\) to bluehost /smv/prod/sites/all/modules/. This will put any upgraded modules/themese on bluehost.
  6. If disabled, login with url ending in /user to display the login screen. Need to login as user/1.
  7. Run the update.php.
  8. Enable (online) the updated site using the Site Maintenance module.

Upgrade Drupal 5.3 - Drupal 5.5

  1. Download and extract a fresh copy of of drupal 5.5 into c:\work\smv\download\drupal5\. This will create a drupal-5.5 directory with the core drupal files extracted.
  2. Locate the daily backup directory i.e. (data\SaintMaryOfVernon\backup\box262.bluehost.com\smv\prod).
  3. Copy the files directory from the backup directory to drupal-5.5. This will copy the user files.
  4. Copy the sites directory from the backup directory to drupal-5.5. This will copy the 3rd party modules, and the key configuration file (sites/default/settings.php).
  5. Upload via ftp the drupal-5.5 directory to bluehost /smv/prod/drupal-5.5.
  6. Disable (offline) the bluehost original / production site using the Site Maintenance module.
  7. Rename the existing directory from prod to prod.20071229.
  8. Rename the new updated directory from drupal-5.5 to prod.
  9. If disabled, login with url ending in /user to display the login screen.
  10. Run the update.php.
  11. Enable (online) the updated site using the Site Maintenance module.

Upgrade Procedure - Drupal 5.2 to Drupal 5.3

  1. Disable (offline) the bluehost original / production site using the Site Maintenance module.
  2. Install a fresh copy of of drupal 5.3 into bluehost smv/smv53
  3. Copy the 3rd party modules from /smv/prod from bluehost.com to your local pc. Then ftp the same dir into bluehost smv/smv53/sites/all/modules
  4. Copy the user files from /smv/prod/files into /smv/smv53/files.
  5. Rename the existing directory from prod to prod.20071109.
  6. Rename the new updated directory from smv53 to prod.
  7. If disabled, login with url ending in /user to display the login screen.
  8. Run the update.php.
  9. Enable (online) the updated site using the Site Maintenance module.

Minor Release Upgrade (Drupal 5.1 to Drupal 5.2) -- Method 2

Procedure:

  1. Disable (offline) the original / production site using the Site Maintenance module.
  2. Restore / create the mysql smvprod instance.
  3. Create a fresh copy of drupal 5.2 into smv52
  4. Copy the 3rd party modules into /sites/all/modules
  5. Copy the user files (/files) into /files.
  6. Rename the existing directory from prod to prod.20070824.
  7. Rename the new updated directory from smv52 to prod.
  8. If disabled, login with url ending in /user to display the login screen.
  9. Run the update.php.
  10. Reset the garland color theme, to set the defined aquamarine color.
  11. Enable (online) the updated site using the Site Maintenance module.
Tips:
  1. Use an ftp client such as filezilla, for reliable, fast transfers.

Minor Release Upgrade (Drupal 5.1 to Drupal 5.2) -- Method 1

  1. Copy Current live / working site into a test site
    1. Extract the file system = daily.tar.gz -> /homedir/public_html/dev/smv to the test site.
    2. Extract the db system
    3. Test / verify that this site is working.
  2. Copy the files of the new / upgrade version to this test site
    1. Copy the new version of Drupal and overlay the test site.
    2. Verify / modify the settings.php / db connection entries.
    3. Verify that the site is still working.

Adding a Page ( Book Page)





Your userids have the Content Administrator role. This means you can create books/pages and update menu options.

To create a book page, the menu options are:

  1. Click on create content
  2. Click on book page. If you want to cheat, this link brings you directly to it.
  3. Then fill in the Title.
  4. For the Parent dropdown, select an existing menu item such as Catholic Education Ministries. Then fill in the Body with whatever text you like.
  5. Scroll down to the the Publishing Options section of the page, make sure to check on the Published checkbox.
  6. You can click on Preview to review the page, or Submit to publish it and make it visible to the world!
